Critters of Bright Valley, micro-request, Seabright’s Gift

This tale was written as a new years request, and should be considered “fanciful canon” (whatever that means).

“Or maybe: Seabright finds himself missing a high tech item from his old life, and one of them inexplicably turns up.”

“DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME WE GAVE ONE OF THE KIDS A GIFT FROM THEIR OLD INCARNATIONS?! We had to expand the server size to an entire world to justify where it came from IN universe!”

“Yeow! No need to yell! This time it’s completely justified where it came from! Crystal-Heart is a sci-fi utopia! Any little tech gizo is easy to hand wave away!”

“What part of ‘being free from the chains of modern society motif’, don’t you get for the setting?”

“It’s just a little something for fun… think of-“

“If you say product placement, I swear-“

“It’s something HE wants… Bright Valley is supposed to be their personal paradise remember? Or have we forgotten that with all the conflict that’s infected their world?”

“… Fine.”

Seabright stared at the innocent looking object in the ‘treasure chest’ the Critters had found from the latest fog bank sweep over Bright Valley. And he laughed.

“What’s this thing? A door stop?” Faith asked.

“I think it’s a watch,” Blush said.

“A music box?” Puck asked.

Seabright laughed. “It’s a solar powered calculator. It even does trigonometry, here let me show you.”

“Heh, I bet Jumping Jack would’ve loved to have that for his pirate career,” Sunny laughed.

“As if I’d need a device like that, I have my own way of doing math, isn’t that right?” Wren said from her telescope.

“Quiet right Mistress,” said Ditty with his abacus.

      1. You managed to fit in a lot of character’s dialouge in a small number of words without it feeling unnatural.
